Beach clean-up efforts, native tree planting, and discussions on microplastics highlighted June and the 1st Environment Week at Porto Central, in Presidente Kennedy (ES/Brazil)
June is a significant month for environmental awareness. Since the United Nations established World Environment Day in 1972, June 5 annually works as a global call for reflection and concrete action in the face of environmental challenges. In Presidente Kennedy, on the southern coast of Espírito Santo (Brazil), Porto Central took this opportunity to carry out a series of activities focused on environmental awareness, conservation, and ecosystem restoration.
Throughout the month, port workers and partner company employees participated in educational talks integrated into the Daily Safety Dialogue, focusing on issues such as microplastic pollution in oceans and the importance of producing native seedlings, a key part of the project’s environmental offset program. In June, Porto Central’s nursery expanded its capacity to 60,000 seedlings per year, playing a central role in the region’s reforestation efforts.
One of the most symbolic actions was the launch of Porto Central’s 1st Environment Week, which included a large clean-up effort in the coastal vegetation area of the Presidente Kennedy Sustainable Development Reserve—a fragile and essential ecosystem for local biodiversity. The initiative resulted in the collection of approximately 90 kilograms of solid waste, showcasing the power of collective action.

To conclude the month’s programming, Porto Central partnered with the local community to carry out a joint native tree planting effort in one of the enterprise’s environmental recovery areas. The initiative strengthened ties between the port and residents, demonstrating that true environmental restoration is only possible when there is shared commitment between business and society.
“Our goal is for Porto Central to go far beyond infrastructure. We also want to be recognized for our commitment to sustainability, by promoting actions that have a real impact on environmental preservation and community engagement,” said Sueli Tonini, Environmental Manager at Porto Central. Gestora Ambiental do Porto Central, Sueli Tonini.
The expectation is that this first edition of Environment Week will become a permanent part of Porto Central’s annual calendar, expanding the reach of its initiatives and contributing consistently to sustainable regional development.
