  • Works Progress: Porto Central begins rock blasting stage for breakwater construction

On September 24, Porto Central will carry out the first controlled rock blasting at the quarry located 26 kilometers from the port area in Presidente Kennedy (ES).

The extracted material will be transported and stockpiled at the port area to be used in the construction of the breakwater. This structure will protect vessels operating at the port and ensure the safety of future operations.

The activity is authorized by the competent environmental agencies, including the State Institute of Environment and Water Resources (IEMA), under License No. 90175018, and the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA), with Installation License No. 1436/2023 for material transportation. The entire operation is closely monitored and follows strict safety protocols.

Over the coming months, further blasting activities will be carried out according to the construction schedule, always with prior notice to the surrounding community, given at least three days in advance.

The rocks will be transported by trucks along a pre-approved and licensed route, with monitored vehicles and trained drivers, to the port area. The logistics plan includes constant communication with traffic authorities and socio-environmental education initiatives for workers and surrounding communities.

At the same time, construction works at the Porto Central site continue to progress, along with the environmental initiatives already underway.

Porto Central

The complete industrial-port complex spans 2,000 hectares, with depths of up to 25 meters and 54 planned multipurpose berths for handling liquid and solid bulk, fertilizers, minerals, grains, containers, general cargo, natural gas, offshore support, shipyards, among other cargo. Porto Central will be developed in phases, according to client and market demand.

Phase 1 includes the construction of a deep-water liquid bulk terminal, focused on ship-to-ship (STS) oil transfer operations, with operations expected to begin in 2027.

At the peak of construction for Phase 1, the project is expected to generate up to 1,295 direct jobs. Porto Central is committed to prioritizing local labor and suppliers.

Porto Central is one of the strategic projects under the Brazilian Federal Government’s Growth Acceleration Program (PAC). The port is expected to drive regional development in Espírito Santo, enhance the country’s logistics infrastructure, and attract new investments in the port and industrial sectors.
