The construction of Porto Central, the largest private deep-water port under development in Brazil, located in Presidente Kennedy (Espírito Santo), is progressing steadily. Preparations have begun at the quarry that will supply rock materials for the construction of the southern breakwater, an essential structure to ensure protection for future port operations. 

In parallel with the land clearing for Phase 1, environmental actions were carried out to maintain and expand the seedling nursery, plant native species in the forest compensation areas, and rescue and manage local wildlife. These activities, conducted by specialized technical teams and under the supervision of the environmental authority, continue to be executed throughout subsequent construction phases.

The organic material resulting from vegetation suppression was shredded on site and mixed with the upper layer of soil (topsoil). The biomass and topsoil are now being transported to compensation areas, where they are used for soil recovery and vegetation coverage. Over 15,000 native seedlings have already been planted, with a target of 100,000 by the end of Phase 1.

Located 27 kilometers from the port site, the quarry is in its final preparation stage before beginning the extraction and transport of rocks to the breakwater construction site. The activity follows a detailed logistics plan with environmental controls in place.

The next stages of construction include earthworks, installation of the construction site facilities, assembly of the concrete element fabrication plant, and dredging of the port’s access channel.

 

The Port

The full industrial port complex will cover an area of 2,000 hectares, with a depth of up to 25 meters and 54 planned berths. It will be capable of handling a wide range of cargo segments, including liquid and solid bulk, fertilizers, minerals, grains, containers, general cargo, natural gas, offshore support services, and shipbuilding. 

Porto Central will be developed in phases according to market demand. Phase 1 includes the construction of a deep-water liquid bulk terminal dedicated to ship-to-ship (STS) oil transshipment, with operations scheduled to begin in 2027.
