As part of the Environmental Week program organized by IFES Presidente Kennedy in partnership with the Municipal Department of Environment, Porto Central held on June 2, the Composting in Practice Workshop.
With the theme Climate Emergency: Reflection and Action for the World We Want, Environmental Week brought together discussions and activities aimed at raising awareness about climate change and presenting sustainable solutions that can be incorporated into everyday life.
The workshop was conducted with 9th-grade students from EMEIEF Barra de Marobá and provided a hands-on learning experience on the reuse of organic waste through composting. During the activity, students learned simple and accessible techniques for transforming food scraps into natural fertilizer, gaining an understanding of how this practice helps reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills while contributing to environmental preservation.
According to Professor Luis Goveia, from IFES Presidente Kennedy, “the workshop encouraged students to recognize how small changes in daily habits can generate positive environmental impacts and contribute to climate change mitigation.”, destacou.
Participation in Environmental Week is part of Porto Central’s Environmental Education Program (PEA), which seeks to promote knowledge, dialogue, and environmental awareness among communities located in the area surrounding the project.
