The Batalha Ambiental Sustainability Group, one of the initiatives under Porto Central’s Environmental Education Program (PEA), held another meeting with residents of Presidente Kennedy last week. 

The activity presented the main areas of work of the PEA and created a space for participants to share their perspectives on socio-environmental challenges present in the daily life of local communities and, through this democratic discussion, propose possible solutions.

Topics raised included:

> Selective waste collection, with discussions on ways to expand waste separation and proper disposal practices;

> Social currency, as a possibility to be further discussed to support the local economy and encourage community engagement;

> Community participation, focusing on residents’ contribution to identifying local issues and developing proposals for the territory.

Community participation in building solutions

Batalha Ambiental seeks to strengthen residents’ participation in discussions on sustainability and initiatives related to the territory.

The initiative draws on the knowledge and experience of people who live in the communities to identify issues that require attention and develop alternatives aligned with local realities.

The meetings are part of the PEA’s efforts to promote dialogue, environmental education and social participation in communities within Porto Central’s area of influence.
